All opinions are mine alone. #CollectiveBiasLast month I started reading Change Your Home, Change Your Life™ with Color by Moll Anderson and was inspired to declutter and update the look of my office bookshelves. This first phase wasn't hard after seeing all of the inspiration in Moll's book. Let me show you what I did.
First, I decluttered the shelves by taking everything off. Then I dusted and wiped the surfaces.
I painted this inexpensive bookshelf white last year so I didn't have to do that. I have been using this bookshelf as a catch-all for my photo props, but I want it to be more than just storage. My goal is to create a functional storage space and add colorful decor that inspires me. By the end of this project, I want these shelves to have fun pink "Pops of color" so I can get excited everytime I look at it.
I knew pink would be the first color I'd add to my home after reading Moll's book. In her book, she walked me through thirteen color lessons and helped me figure out which colors inspire me the most. My color happens to be pink.
Pink is my happy color. When I see it, my mood brightens and I feel a sense of fairy tale euphoria come over me. Most of my favorite candies and fairytales from childhood included the color pink and even as an adult, the same happy feelings arise when I see pink.
We'll I'm not going to decorate my entire office in pink tulle and bubble gum, but Moll's book showed me some practical ways to bring my favorite color into this space.
This area on the wall directly behind my bookshelf is what you see in my videos. The white bookshelf contrasts with the current wall color and the white shelves work as a blank canvas for me to add storage and introduce varying shades of pink to this space.
After clearing the shelves, I gathered some pink items I thought would look good in my office. This is my first attempt at decorating with such a bold color so don't laugh. I tried to make the space fun, but not childish. That can be hard using the color pink, but for my first try, I think I did pretty good.
I'm super excited about the small decor changes I'm making throughout my home as a result of reading and working through Change Your Home, Change Your Life™ with Color: What's Your Color Story.
My first project since reading Change Your Home, Change Your Life™ with Color: What's Your Color Story was this office shelf makeover, but it won't be the last. Once I finish another project inspired but the book I'll post before and after pictures.
