4 Ways to Be Your Best from the Inside Outalue)

People are often surprised by my age and think I'm younger than I am. I don't mind it now, but when I was in my twenties I hated looking young. I think the assumption is derived by observing my height (I'm 5,1) my build (I weigh 120 pounds), my hair, skin, and nails.
4 Ways to Be Your Best from the Inside Out

In my early twenties, self-care became very important to me. Taking time to do things that made me happy and nurtured me from the inside out was a normal part of my routine. This got a little harder when I became a wife and mom. In all honesty, it fell by the wayside for some years. When our kids were little, self-care was put on the back burner. As my kids got older, I didn't naturally resume self-care habits. It wasn't until one day when my husband forced me to stop putting everyone first all of the time and to take time for myself. He noticed I was often unhappy and tired. I didn't realize, the kids had gotten older and it was okay to not give them every bit of my time and energy.

When my youngest son was eight years old, I put me back on the priority list. I set a goal to cultivate a habit of pampering myself with quality products, food, and healthy habits again. Five years later, I am glad I did. I just turned 40 years old and I feel amazing. Here are some of the main habits that contribute to my youthfulness and overall inner peace.

Post Big Chop 4C Hair Growth | 3 Month Update

Post Big Chop 4C Hair Growth | 3 Month Update
Between my big chop in October 2016 and this January 2017 update, my hair has grown quite a bit. Not only that but 4C hair is super soft, relatively tangle free and healthy. I will share my haircare routine in another post but for today I want to document my growth and what I think is stimulating it.

Big Chop Haircut Reveal: How I Style My TWA + 4C Texture Shots

I "big chopped" on October 23 and I can't even tell you how excited I am.

My goal was to transition as long as possible, but that was for my husband. He prefers I trim the relaxed ends periodically instead of all at once. I prefer to get it over with and start fresh with all unrelaxed hair. On the 23rd he said he wouldn't mind if I big chopped and so I did.

Of course after chopping I was shocked at how short my hair was, but once I washed and styled it I was in love.
Big Chop Haircut Reveal: How I Style My TWA + 4C Texture Shots
I have been using very little products on my hair and it's made being natural this time so much easier. When I big chopped three years ago, I bought so many products and tried so many styles.

This time, I want to be super easy going with my hair as it grows out. I don't care much about super defined curls this time around and won't be spending hours in the mirror trying to achieve them.

I plan on embracing my texture and curl pattern pretty much as it grows.

The first week of November I washed and finger coiled a few spots of my hair and let it dry and got the look in the picture above.

The next week I blew it out so my afro didn't feel so short. That also gave me a chance to trim some leftover relaxed hair.

How to Slick Your Baby Hair or 4C Edges

Do you struggle with trying to Slick Your Baby Hair or 4C Edges down? Today I'm going to tell you the two steps I use for neat edges every time.

Since sharing my protective up-do, I've big chopped. I was about 16 weeks post relaxer and decided to cut off the relaxed ends of my hair.

Since cutting my hair, I've switched to a crochet braid protective style. I love this style because it requires no manipulation of my hair. The only thing I do a few times a week is slick my baby hair.

When my hair was relaxed this was easy to do, but once I began trying it on my coils 4C hair, it was much harder. The hair would lay flat, but would coil back up until one day I tried something different.

How to Wrap Your Hair in a Turban | Super Easy Tutorial

How to Wrap Your Hair in a Turban | Super Easy Tutorial

I'm moving into month six of transitioning to natural hair and so far, I've been wearing protective styles or my hair covered with fun fabrics. Wrapping my hair in fabric allows me to have fun with color and shapes. There are so many ways fabric can be wrapped and secured to cover the hair entirely or partially.  Over the next few weeks, I'm going to show you how easy wraps are to use and several ways to style them.

For today's tutorial, How to Wrap Your Hair in a Turban, I'm using a black and white jersey knit fabric. Jersey knits are super stretchy making it ideal for this wrap style. The stretchy fabric allows the wrap to really mold and hang on the your head so you don't have to worry about it unravelling. I'll demonstrate how secure this is in my video.

Transitioning 4C Hair | 13 Weeks No Relaxer | Up do Protective Style

Transitioning 4C Hair, No Relaxer, Updo Protective Style, Natural Hair, Co-Wash, Henna

Up do's and bantu twist outs have been my go-to styles as I transition from relaxed to unrelaxed hair. The first time I went natural as an adult, I did a big chop and cut all of the relaxed hair off.

This time, I'm letting my relaxed hair remain so I can maintain length as my natural hair grows. To style my hair in this simple up do, I start with freshly co-washed hair.

Summer Animal Print

 Summer Animal Print
I am having an amazing summer and these animal print pants are making it even better. There's just something about putting on an outfit that allows you to express who you are. If I had to describe myself in one word it would be BOLD and that's what these pants make me feel.

They are from the LOFT and the print instantly caught my eye when I first saw them. They are linen with a navy blue and white animal print.

How I Grew My Edges with Women’s ROGAINE®

Over the next twelve weeks I am going to document how I grew my thinning edges with Women’s ROGAINE®

For those of you wondering what edges are, it's what some people refer as a hairline. The soft, tender hairs around my hairline are slowly thinning and leaving me with the appearance of balding in certain spots.

Now, let me be completely transparent here. I've tried Women’s ROGAINE® a few years ago, but didn't stick with the regimen. I used it for about a week and stopped for one reason and one reason only. I was scared my edges would fall out once I stopped using it. I watched a bunch of videos that say you pretty much have to use Women’s ROGAINE® the rest of your life or the hair you gain will begin to shed and thin again.

That scared me. To imagine losing the little bit of edges I had at the time was horrific to think about. Guess what though...? When I look back at that first Women’s ROGAINE® post two years ago, my edges were thicker. Look at them beautiful edges.

I didn't use the product two years ago and now my edges have thinned even more. It's crazy because I thought they were thin then, but they're even thinner now as you'll see in just a second.
"Left untreated, hair thinning can worsen over time; women can lose one-sixth of their hair density in a period of 10 years". source: ROGAINE®
So here I am attempting to thicken my edges using Women’s ROGAINE®, but this time I'm sticking with it.

My Weekend in Virginia Fashion Look Book

I spent a wonderful weekend away in Glen Allen, a small suburb in Richmond, Virginia. I wasn't sure what to expect since I'd never been there. We were heading up for a family reunion and they weather was unseasonable hot. Since it would be hot I packed some super light weight pieces to wear.

Perfect A.M. Beauty Routine for Vlogging and Periscope
I love hopping on Periscope at 9 a.m. and connecting with you ladies, but I have to admit the beauty struggle is real.

Some days, I want to just scope in my sleep bonnet and bathrobe. If you notice, which I don't think you have, I haven't been wearing make-up on my morning scopes. I'm sure you haven't noticed since many of you still comment on how great my skin looks and that's in part to genes and my makeup-less facial routine.

I'm a busy wife, momma and entrepreneur and my goal as a online presence is to inspire you. Part of that is by finding practical ways to be awesome in all of those roles while still having balance.

To accomplish that goal and inspire you to take a few moments to pamper yourself each morning, I'm sharing my pre-Periscope morning beauty routine. I'll show you how I love on my skin and always look well put together for my scopes. This is the routine I complete prior to scoping and it makes getting on camera fun.

Are you ready?

How to Plan a Facial Pampering Day for Your Teens

Today's fun facial pampering day for your teens tutorial is sponsored. All opinions are mine alone.

Becoming a mom is one of the best decisions I ever made and having daughters is like having younger best friends for life.
I get to do all kinds of fun stuff with my youngest girl, and love teaching her how to be an awesome young lady.

She’s going on fourteen and everytime I looking at her it’s like looking in a mirror. She has a beautiful smile and flawless skin, and a ton of confidence. She’s not really moved by what people think about her unless it’s positive.

She takes after me in a lot of ways, including having naturally healthy skin. To make sure it stays that way, I’m always encouraging her to take care of it by keeping it clean.

She’s been using bar soap and drugstore facial products here and there but hasn’t really formed a consistent habit.

Since she’s begun wearing a little bit of makeup, I want to encourage her to pay a little more attention to caring for her skin.

Minimalist Morning Routine for Moms

I participated in this sponsored campaign on behalf of REACH® and One2One Network. All opinions stated are my own.
I've been mom of school aged kids for 17 years and one thing I never liked doing is dropping them off to school while looking a mess.

Over the years I've developed a minimalist morning routine that works perfect when I'm short on time and have to leave the house early in the morning.

How to Be Mommy and Still Feel Beautiful

    Tracking Pixel
Here are three lisptick colors that will help show off your radient smile. It's a sponsored post written by me on behalf of ARM & HAMMER™
Have any of you experienced that moment after having children where you just thought you weren't cute anymore? For me it was eight years after giving birth to my fourth child.
http://bit.ly/1KKqFqI I was often irritable, suffered from headaches, was always tired and didn't like the changes my body had gone through as a result of child birth. One day my husband asked me to stop putting the children before my own well being. He told me he wanted me to start exercising again and taking time to pamper myself each week.
    http://bit.ly/1KKqFqI

That was a life changing moment. It was the beginning of getting my radiance back. One change I made was to my beauty routine. By the time my husband encouraged me I had no beauty routine except for when we were going to church. Every other day I got up and focused on taking care of the kids and the house.

    Shower Caddy Tour

I'm absolutely a 'me time' snob. I just gotta have it. Whether a hour once a week to do my nails or take a hot bubble bath, I am just more at peace after pampering myself.

My pampering starts with the products in my shower caddy. They are the ones that go on my skin and I use most often. What I use on my skin is super important to me and is directly connected to how smooth and silky my skin is.

Each month I rotate out the products I'm using for different scents and such. What I use depends on the season and how I'm feeling at the start of the month, but regardless of what I use the goal is to make me feel, and smell fabulous.

Neutral Makeup Look for Mothers Day

Today's fabulous neutral look is achieved using some of my favorite drugstore products. Right now Physicians Formula products are my go-to the natural make-up look. I absolutely love how light and gentle they are on my skin.

The color pallets are so-so perfect I can't even tell you. PF absolutely got it right when they made these pigments and they are the one I go-to first when shopping for drugstore makeup.

For this look I am using a new foundation and as of the making of this video, I love it. I'm using the Maybelline Fit Me Foundation in Mocha and Coconut and girrrrrl....the combination on my skin is the bomb dot comb.

I asked on my Facebook page if women thought it was selfish to plan time for themselves and the answers were about fifty-fifty.
I am one of the women who don't think time to myself is selfish. In fact, my husband and I agree it's important.

Having time when I don't have to think about the needs of my kids or husband gives me time to take inventory of my spiritual, mental, physical and emotional well being.

One thing I love to do during my me time is taking a hot bubble bath. It's just so relaxing.
To set the stage for a relaxing spa like experience I make sure to keep the following things on hand.
