How to Compare Mobile Plans to Get the Most Value #YourTaxCash

I love hunting down the best prices for the best value on everything I buy. I'm equally excited about making my money, especially my income tax return stretch as far as possible.

Just a few weeks ago my phone stopped working and I needed a new one. I told my husband that since we had to buy a new phone for me, we might as well get a new phone for the kids and switch them from their plan with Walmart Family Mobile over to our carrier.

Before we could finalize the decision, I had to make sure the switch would save us money. If my husband and I could get the same price with our carrier that we were paying with Walmart Family Mobile it only made sense to have one company.

So I sat down and started comparing the carriers, service and prices and found that we'd be paying more by combining the kids with our service provider and getting less service.

After School Homework Station | Before & After

My DIY after school homework station has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #BTSwithHP #CollectiveBias
After School Homework Station

I've been all kinds of excited about sharing our after school homework station with you. You know how much I like for things to be organized so having this space for my kids was a must. Over the past two school years, the kids have been plopping down wherever to do homework on the laptops and tablets, but my son was having an issue when it ca time to type up essays and such. His screen was way to small for him to be typing and staring at while trying to complete longer project...hence the after school homework station.

The jewel of our home work station is the new HP Snow White All-in-One Touch Screen Desk Top. Did she just say, "touch screen?". Yes I did. This is one of the newest HP computers so if you look for it stores this week and don't see it, you can order it online and have it shipped to your home. The new HP has been redesigned and is ready to use straight from the box....no kidding! I thought for sure they hadn't sent everything I needed when I didn't see a processor, but the processor is built into the computer screen. The alone is a huge space saver. Not having to store that bulky machinery leaves more space at our home work station for my kids school supplies. This computer meets all of our needs in the amount of storage it provides for their school and gaming activities. Plus it's great quality, stylish and super affordable.

Before we jump into the details of our home work station, be warned...there are tons of yummy pictures. I want to give you all of the details you need to create a space like this for your home.

To start our space we used this random wall in our family room. It's in a crazy location and really serves no purpose in the space. Until now, this is what it looked like and the space was never used.
After School Homework Station

The first thing I knew I wanted at our homework station was a board where we could place notes for one another. I used a black poster board, washi tape, sticky notes and a calendar to create one for our homework station. Each of the kids have space on there where we can leave sticky note messages for one another.

How We Use Our Chore Chart

Today's tips on how we use our chore chart and the shopping trip has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and Walmart Family Mobile. All opinions are mine alone. #DataAndAMovie #CollectiveBias
How We Use Our Chore Chart
My kids are 22, 15, 12 and 13. The three youngest still live at home and have weekly responsibilities to fulfill.

Each week they have a set of chores and jobs. Their chores are things they do that they aren't compensated for. Those are things like making their beds, cleaning their rooms and bathroom.

Then they have jobs. Their jobs are things they have to do to help manage our home and we track those things using a blank weekly assignments sheet

You can pull it up from your computer or phone and print.

3 Ways to make laundry fun

When my husband and I got our very first apartment, we had a basic washing machine and dryer. We pretty much loaded the machine, turned the dial to the start position and pulled the knob.

Our laundry room was so tiny, only one of us could do laundry at a time. There was literally no room to do anything but bring clothes in and out. Since then, we've expanded our family and moved into our first home with a family-size laundry room. We do 10 to 15 loads per week, so if we can do that much laundry and enjoy it, our tips may be worth checking out.

1. Create a laundry system

Our laundry system is built around organizing the flow of laundry, how many days laundry will be done and who's responsible for what.

Laundry wash/dry days:

My husband does laundry five to six days a week. At one point, he did almost no laundry — but since buying a washer and dryer with optimal design and multiple wash/dry cycles, he's taken over the laundry.

The features on these newer washers and dryers make it easier for him to load, unload and transfer laundry from machine to machine.

The type of washer and dryer you own has a lot to do with whether laundry time is fun for your family or a chore. It's an investment — but it should also be looked at as a family helper. When I buy appliances, I expect them to lighten my workload or eliminate work for me.

The Best Way to Organize Your Tax Return | Binder Filing System

Today's Income Tax Return Binder Filing System tutorial is a sponsored post. All opinions are mine alone.
The Best Way to Organize Your Tax Return My husband has run his own courier business going on 13 years and somewhere along the way, I became his unofficial office manager. I create documents that allow him to be more efficient and systems to keep the paper work organized.
The Best Way to Organize Your Tax Return

In his line of work, we have to track air bills, create shipping labels, mileage logs and a slew of other documents to keep up with on a day-to-day basis.

On a year-to-year basis, there are income tax returns to manage. Although we already had things neatly filed, I decided to go a little farther create a binder system.
The Best Way to Organize Your Tax Return In to create our tax return binder system I used the following supplies.

  • 1.5 inch notebooks
  • page protectors
  • scrapbook paper

4 Fun Mobile Office Perks

One of the fun parts about being a professional blogger is that I get to set my own hours and pretty much dictate my income based on my creativity and hustle.

Another fun part is how easy it is to work on the go.

I've been at this blogging thing a long time and since I pretty much blog about my life, working on the go goes hand in hand.

If you haven't figured out how to make mobile working fun, I'll share a few things that make it fun for me.

How I'll Stay Connected with My Teen this School Year

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and Walmart Family Mobile. All opinions are mine alone. #JustACallAway #CollectiveBias
We are finally ready for school to begin.
Everyone has their supplies and schedule and my kids are excited about school this year, especially my oldest son since we got him a new phone
We bought the Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime at Walmart for $149.00.

He tried to keep a straight face and act like he wasn't overjoyed, but I knew he was. He just turned fifteen and I guess he thinks he's too old to smile.

I knew his old phone was freezing up and shutting off so I surprised him with this one a week before the start of school.

He thinks having a phone it's a gift to him, but it's really peace of mind for me. His phone let's us communicate when he's out on his own and his plan is affordable.
He has the $29.88 a month Walmart Family Mobile wireless plan that gives him unlimited talk, text and data with up to 1G of 4G LTE data. All we did was transfer his existing SIM card to his new phone.

The Walmart Family Mobile plan is so simple to use and it's affordable. There's also no-contract so I can cancel anytime. The ability to cancel was definitely a selling point for me because I wasn't sure if my son would be responsible with the phone.

4 Ways to Make Money With Online Surveys

This #bendtherules moment and survey success tips are created in partnership with @HP. All opinions are my own.

Do you seriously want to make some extra money taking surveys?

Of course you do, so let me help you out with four simple tips. To demonstrate these tips I'm using my HP Pavillion x360. With a 360 degree hinge it can be used as a laptop, tablet, tent and stand. It's the same laptop Meghan Trainor is using to document her All About That BassTour in partnership with HP. The HP x360 laptops are the most versatile laptops I've ever seen and perfect for taking surveys.

Who should take surveys?

Those of you who are serious about supplementing your income or saving for something special, are the folks who should be taking surveys.

I took surveys from 2008 through 2010, and used my earnings each year to fund our Christmas savings account. The money I made each day taking surveys accumulated into a small check every week or so.

The key to making with surveys are as follows:

10 Best Exercises for Defined Back and Shoulders

My 10 Best Exercises for Defined Back and Shoulders is a sponsored by Sol Republic.

I'm sitting on the couch, pen in hand, pad on my lap and my Sol Republic Trax Air Wireless Bluetooth Headphones on my ears, drowning out the noise of my kids in the background.

It's that time of year and I'm writing out my fitness goals.

The kids are out of school for the holiday so it's a bit noisier during the day. If I'm going to be subjected to noise while I write my goals, it will be the noise of my choosing.

These headphones are ridiculously noise reducing, so even with the kids making noise, I'm not disturbed. The Sol Republic Trax Air Wireless Bluetooth Headphones deliver crisp audio with clear highs and deep bass so instead of fussing, I hear the sweet sounds of my favorite songs. It's crazy being able to see the kids, but not hear them.

I'm getting amped about what I plan to achieve in the gym this year.

This year I definitely want to work on what some call back absI first noticed back abs while my husband was doing triceps pushdowns. It's the muscle definition in the upper back. Think about the images you've seen of Serena W., Jada P., or Michelle O., in a backless dress.

Yass!! That's the kind of beautifully sculpted back and shoulder definition I'm going for.

When I saw that muscle definition I knew I wanted to start working on defining the muscles in my upper back and shoulders.

The summer will be here soon, and with the hot weather come the tank dresses, and tank tops. A defined back might not matter now, but in the summer it will.

In order to get my back and shoulders toned up I'm going to change up my workout a bit by incorporating some of the following exercises into my back and shoulder workout routine.

Why Using a Cheap Wireless Plan for Your Child Makes Sense

This #Phones4School shop has been compensated by #CollectiveBias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone.
I've been using Walmart's cheapest wireless plans for about a year now. Each of my kids has a phone and use it to stay connected to me and their dad, as well as to organize their school year.

My oldest will start this school year with the Alcatel One Touch Evolove with unlimited talk, text and web for $34.88. It was the cheapest option for us versus adding him to our current plan.

The Greatest Gifts for Grads at Best Buy

My oldest son graduated this year and I am just as happy as he is that he can finally rest. He had a tremendously rigorous workload last year and when he begins school in the fall it will be just as challenging, but I know he's up for it.

My son is an honors student and has so many assignments at times, it makes my head spin. When we begin shopping for his back to school supplies we'll be using the Best Buy gifts for grads shopping guides.

The guides are broken down into personality types and my son definitely falls under the "Networker" graduate category.
The "Networker" grad, "uses technology to keep totally connected while on the go with a variety of devices.

This tech forward Grad leans on devices to make life easier go having the latest and greatest is always a priority". The best gift for my son from the list would be the SanDisk Connect 32GB USB 2.0 Wireless Flash Drive.

The drive works wirelessly so he'll be able to access his reports and saved work on up to 8 devices without plugging in the USB.

There are many great gift ideas on the list including:

  • iPhone 5s
  • Lenovo Yoga 2 13" Touch-Screen Laptop
  • SONOS Play:1 Wireless Speaker for Streaming Music
  • Google Chromecast
  • iTunes Gift Card $50
  • Jawbone MINI Jambox Wireless Speaker
  • mophie space pack External Battery Case
  • Surface 2 64GB AT&T 4G LTE
  • Surface Keyboard Cover
  • Samsung S-View Flip Cover for Note 3
  • Seagate Backup Plus Slim 1TB External USB Portable Hard Drive
  • Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Dual-Band Wireless-AC Router
  • Speck CandyShell Cell Phone Case

Luckily, all of his textbooks will be digitized at his new school so we're looking forward to seeing how learning will be different because of it.

Cheap Wireless Plans that Keep Working Dads Connected to their Kids

I am a member of the Collective Bias®  Social Fabric® Community.  This #FamilyMobile shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper amplification for #CollectiveBias and its advertiser.

Keeping my husband in touch with our children while he's working is huge for our family.

In the early years of my marriage, my husband was working upwards of sixty hours a week.

We had three small children at the time, technology wasn't what it is today so he missed out on a lot of special moments.

Nowadays, phones are equipped with Unlimited Talk, Text and Data/Web plans, allowing working parents to be more involved even when away from home.

To help my husband stay connected to the kids, I bought them a Nokia Lumia from Walmart.

For this phone, I wanted a service that would simply let them message and call their father so I chose the cheapest wireless plan offered by Walmart Family Mobile.
Cheap Wireless Plans
We could have just as easily added another line to our main carrier, but with the Walmart Family Mobile plan we don't have to commit to a contract.
Cheap Wireless Plans

To set up this line we bought a compatible phone and a $25 Family Mobile starter pack. The phone was working within 30 minutes for less than $130 and no contract.

We programmed the Nokia Lumia's number into my husbands iPhone contacts as "kids" and into the kids' phone as "dad" making it easy for them to see when he's calling or texting them.

On days when he's working past their bedtime, they text "I love you" or a sweet "good night" message to him.
Cheap Wireless Plans
They also text him just to talk and we encourage them to take pictures with their phone.

My husband enjoys looking through their phone photo albums to see what they've been doing through their camera lens.
Cheap Wireless Plans

My kids are not as concerned about the cost of the plan or the type of phone. They're just happy to have a phone with so many nifty features.

Cheap Wireless Plans that Keep You Connected to Family

I am a member of the Collective Bias®  Social Fabric® Community.  This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper amplification for #CollectiveBias and its advertiser.

I became a grandmother 19 months ago and I just can't get enough of my grandson. I talk to his mom, my oldest daughter, every single day.

As we talk I listen to him playing or jabber in the background. His voice has become a regular part of my week, thanks to technology and the Unlimited Talk, Text and Data/Web plan I have through Walmart #FamilyMobile.

He lives an hour and half from me, but that doesn't keep us from connecting. My Alcatel One Touch Evolve phone makes it easy for me to video call or voice call with him.

The phone was easy to purchase and set up right inside Walmart

Within minutes my phone was working and I was texting my number to my daughter.

With this being my first grandchild, I'm like a kid in a candy store. I want to know how he's doing daily.

I was concerned, he wouldn't know me as well as his grandmother that lives ten minutes from him, but because of technology and Walmart's lowest priced unlimited plans, we have been able to connect in ways not possible without technology.

Walmart offers some pretty cheap wireless plans and inexpensive mobile phone options, especially for people like myself who are on a tight budget.

This whole motherhood thing is new to my daughter, but I'm here to help her daily through our calls and texts.

On the other hand being a grandmother is new to me, but I am learning how to stay connected to my grandson even when I can't be with him physically.

Watching his eyes light up when we video chat is so amazing. To see that at such a young age, he recognizes my voice and face even though we only see one another once a month is so amazing.

He's such a smart boy. When he's here with me he already knows exactly how to access my phones home screen and click on icons. He's even called me a few times from his mothers phone, but I think it was accidental.

All I heard was my phone ring and then his voice...baby talk and all. He eventually hangs up since he's not even aware he's making calls.

Having the ability to video call with my grandson yet still pay a reasonable price for my mobile service is a win-win situation for me, my daughter and grandson.
